In-Class Assignment Wed. 9/13

Using the road maps, be your very own MAPQUEST and tell me traveling directions for a trip that begins at Columbus High School and ends in Columbus High School, by visiting all these spots:

Altamont
Nowata, Oklahoma
Grove, OK
Seneca, MO
Nevada, MO
Fort Scott, KS
Chanute, KS
Parsons, KS
Pittsburg, KS
Carl Junction, MO
Mount Vernon, MO
Branson, MO
Galena, KS
Miami, OK
Riverton, KS
Liberal, MO

The key here is to do it in the most efficient, time saving manner. You have to visit all those towns/cities. You must list the mileage you travel between each stop. You must also list the road/highway designation of each spot. Also, using the standard driving speed of 65 mph, estimate your total driving time.

FIND THE MOST EFFICIENT WAY TO HIT ALL THESE SPOTS. Use the atlases and road maps to assist you.

Go team.

OFFICIAL DUE DATE FOR THIS PROJECT IS:

MONDAY SEPTEMBER 25

Columbus Current Events

Here is what you should be doing in class today:

1. Remember to be studying your central states map for the map quiz on Monday.
2. Keep working on your travel agent presentation. You should have contacted enough people to start forming a nice PowerPoint. Here are some of the things I want mentioned in your Powerpoint:

a. Population
b. State Bird
c. State Motto
d. The State Flag
e. Largest City
f. smallest city
g. Biggest tourist attraction (in number of visitors)
h. A unique oddity in the state (example: Kansas has the "World's Biggest Ball of Twine" in Cawker City.
i. A reference from at least ONE National Park

As part of your presentation, you should definitely have a state map and be able to point out on them what you are talking about after each thing you mention.

The presentation should be 10 minutes long. When I get back (finally) on Monday I will go over with you how the Powerpoint will be graded, so you will know how to go about making it.

If you don't know how to do Powerpoint or Keynote, try an internet search on PowerPoint tutorials, or start by watching someone else work on their's.

Good luck and work hard. You have little time to waste. I haven't set an official due date, but it is coming soon!
